A Red Movement: A Short History of WATERMELON (August 14th)

Watermelons, also known as Citrullus lanatus (as his scientific name), are big tough football ball-like fruits originated in southern Africa. This fruits are green on the outside and transparent-red on the inside with lot of black seeds.

Watermelon is thought to have been domesticated at least 4,000 years ago, and now a day, it’s widely distributed in Africa and Asia. However, the first recorded watermelon crop was found in Egypt, and they were left as food to nourish the dead in the afterlife.

A funny fact about watermelons is that it wasn't until 1615, however, that the word "watermelon" first appeared in the English dictionary.

Presently, the Russian Federation grows much of the commercial supply of watermelon. People there make a very popular wine of watermelons (weird, right?). The other world watermelon-producing leaders are China, Turkey, Iran, and the United States.

Now, you know the history of cherries! If you want to learn more about your favorite fruits, stay tuned!

Love always
