A Red Movement: A Short History of CHERRIES (August 7th)

The tangy-sweet taste of this little red fruits won their place of one of the most delicious fruits ever.

Cherries are usually found on deserts or, sometimes, in simple fruiters. The delicacy of this reddish fruits is what characterizes them.

This fruits were brought to America in the 1600’s, but at first, people like Roman conquerors, Greek citizens and Chinese noblemen were the only ones who were worthy enough to eat them.

Peter Dougherty (some sort of cheery-distributor) was a Presbyterian missionary who lived in northern Michigan.  In 1852, he planted cherry trees on Old Mission Peninsula, so, when the other farmers notice that his trees were growing with a brand new kind of fruit, they began to plan trees as well.

Today, the U.S. cherry industry produces more than 650 million pounds of tart and sweet cherries each year.  Much of the cherry production is concentrated in Michigan (as we previously mention) and the Pacific Northwest.

Now, you know the history of cherries! If you want to learn more about your favorite fruits, stay tuned!

Love always
Cheryl
