This
sweet ball-like fruit comes from China, where they were cultivated since the
early days of Chinese culture. They were the favorite food of the emperors
because of its delicious flavor.
The peach
tree is considered (in Chinese culture) to be the tree of life, and peaches are
symbols of immortality and unity. That’s why Chinese brides carry peach
blossoms.
The ones
that brought peach to America are believed to be the Spanish explorers, and it
was quite popular in France and England.
A curious
fact about peach is that the Romans used to call the peach the “Persian apple”,
and the name for peach in numerous
languages is the name for Persia.
Now a
days China remains as the largest world
producer of peaches, with Italy second, but still, Italy is the main
exporter of peaches in the European Union.
Another
fact about this sweet fruit is that a lot of peaches are grown in Georgia, so
much that it became known as the Peach State.
