A Yellow Movement: A Short History of SWEET CORN (August 19th)

This funny shaped yellow vegetable is originated from Mexico and Central America. A funny fact about the sweet corn is that it first appeared because the natives grew two types of different grass at in the same place (the teosinte with an unknown wild grass), giving as a result this delicious novelty.

Some corn pollen grains were found in drill cores 200 feet below Mexico City, which are believed to be 80,000 years old, so, it has a very ancient history.

The great thing about sweet corn is that it contains some of the B-complex vitamins (isn’t it great?) including B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6, and other ones like C, A and K, making corn good for hair, skin, the digestion, heart and brain.

And, taking about health, it is believed that it can help in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, although this has not been proved, it does seem to help to reduce blood sugar levels and blood pressure, however.

Now you know the history of raspberries! If you want to learn more about your favorite vegetables, stay tuned!

Love always

  1. I think that you got confused at the end of the post, where you talk about raspberries instead of sweet corn. Anyhow, I loved the story, it was very informative.
